Building a lasting legacy for the Cotswolds
A note from Councillor Mike Evemy, Leader, Cotswold District Council
I’m pleased to introduce our update to Cotswold District Council’s corporate priorities.
We’ve made a lot of progress in the last year, and I’m proud of what we’ve achieved. From delivering genuinely affordable housing, to reaching a total of £1.2 million in funding for local community projects – everything we do is driven by our commitment to deliver for you.
However, these achievements have taken place against the backdrop of significant challenges. The Government has more than doubled its housing target for the Cotswold District – an area where 80% of the land is rightly designated as National Landscape. Through our Local Plan, we’re working to balance the need for new homes and infrastructure with protecting the unique character of our area.
We’re also working across the district to prepare for local government reorganisation, which will bring major changes to how local authorities are structured.
With this in mind, I’m pleased to share our renewed priorities for Cotswold District Council to help us continue the progress we’re making, while laying the groundwork for a successful future. These are:
- Preparing for the future
- Delivering good services
- Responding to the climate emergency
- Delivering housing
- Supporting communities
- Supporting the economy
Our priorities build on the previous action plan while introducing new initiatives that address emerging challenges and position our district for a thriving future.
We live in a truly beautiful area. I’m excited for what lies ahead, to leave a lasting legacy for generations to come.
