Cotswold Archaeology Julian Richards talk

Cotswold Archaeology’s Mick Aston Annual Lecture 2025: Stonehenge: Old Rocks, New Theories

Stonehenge, arguably the most famous stone circle in the world, will be the subject of Cotswold Archaeology’s Annual Mick Aston Lecture. This year’s lecture by Dr Julian Richards takes place at the Corinium Museum on Wednesday May 21st at 7pm. It will also be streamed for free online.

Starting with an examination of its unique structure, Julian will explore the big questions including: how was it built, who built it and, perhaps the most intriguing, why? While exploring past ideas, Julian will draw on recent discoveries and the results of new scientific analysis to offer our current understanding of this enigmatic monument to the beliefs and ingenuity of our ancient ancestors.

Cotswold Archaeology holds its Mick Aston Annual Lecture in memory of former Trustee Mick Aston and his lifelong contribution to archaeology. Each year, the lecture celebrates recent discoveries in the field of archaeology for attendees both in the Cotswolds and digitally from all over the world: this lecture is available both in person at the Corinium Museum and online as one of Cotswold Archaeology’s webinar series.

Tickets to the lecture at the Corinium Museum are available from the Corinium Museum website: www.coriniummuseum.org
