Cotswold District Council seeks information on illegal roadside dumping
Cotswold District Council is appealing for information and asking the community to be vigilant after several loads of soil and aggregate were dumped at different roadside locations across the district.
The demolition waste appeared at the intersection of Stow Road (A429) and Welsh Way just north of Cirencester, on Haresdown Hill (A433) near Haresdown Barn adjacent to Cotswold Airport, and beside the A436 near the turning for Hawling.
It is likely that the incidents – which appear to be linked – took place at night between March 31 and April 2, and involved a tipper truck vehicle.
Cotswold District Council is appealing to residents to remain vigilant of any suspicious activity by vehicles like this, and is asking anyone who came across or saw a tipper truck vehicle at or near to these locations, during hours of darkness to share any details or dashcam footage with us.
Kevin Lea, Enviro-crimes programme officer at Cotswold District Council, said: “Fly tipping of any sort is not tolerated in the Cotswold district. Taxpayers bear the cost of clearing this waste – and any waste that is tipped illegally. The dumping of this soil and aggregate waste will be costly and inconvenient to residents and businesses as it will require traffic management to lift dirt from the roadside.
“I’d ask any residents who have information about these incidents to contact ERS@publicagroup.uk or 01285 623000 at Cotswold District Council, in confidence.”
