Cotswold Residents Slash Energy Bills with Solar Power
Cotswold District Council is thrilled to announce that 20 homes have been equipped with solar panels through the Cotswold Home Solar partnership with MakeMyHouseGreen (MMHG).
This initiative, launched in 2023, is designed to make solar energy more accessible and affordable for residents; reducing carbon emissions and lowering energy bills.
Homeowners who take advantage of this initiative can experience significant financial savings. Current participating residents are projected to collectively save nearly £638,200 over the 25-year lifespan of their solar installations, which equates to approximately £25,528 in annual savings.
Alongside the economic benefits, the scheme is already having a positive environmental impact, with an annual reduction of 19,963 kg of carbon emissions. Installing solar panels can also enhance property value by improving a home's Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating, making it more attractive to future buyers.
The Cotswold Home Solar scheme offers expert guidance and access to trusted installers. Through MMHG’s platform, residents determine the best solar options for their properties, receive tailored advice, and ensure high-quality installations. The process is designed to be straightforward, helping homeowners transition to clean energy with confidence.
Councillor Mike McKeown, cabinet member for Climate Change and Sustainability, said: “We are delighted to see the Cotswold Home Solar initiative delivering real benefits to our residents. Reaching 20 installations is a fantastic milestone, demonstrating that local people are keen to embrace renewable energy. We are committed to supporting more households in making the switch to solar, helping to cut energy costs and contribute to a greener future.”
With energy prices fluctuating and the need for climate action greater than ever, now is the perfect time to consider solar energy. The Cotswold Home Solar scheme is currently accepting new applications, offering more households the opportunity to transition to sustainable energy solutions.
