District Council implements cemetery restrictions

Cotswold District Council has announced that its cemeteries at Chesterton and Stratton in Cirencester will be closed to the public due to the Government’s restrictions on social distancing and essential travel.

The restrictions will take effect from the morning of Saturday 28th March 2020, for the protection of all visitors and staff and will remain in place until further notice.

Limited access to the cemeteries will still be permitted for funerals, in line with Government guidelines, as follows:

  • Funerals will be limited to a maximum of 10 immediate family members which may include the following; Spouse/Partner, Parents/Carers, Brothers/Sisters, Children (and partners)
  • Where there are no immediate family attending then a maximum 4 persons may attend, being carers and friends.
  • A distance of two metres must be maintained between every household group at all times.

Funeral directors are instructed to inform individuals that funerals should not be advertised and must ensure that they are not directly advertising any funerals themselves at this time.
