District Council to invest £30,000 into Cirencester’s Brewery Court

Leader of the Council, Cllr Joe Harris, who is a lifelong resident of Cirencester, has said he shares residents' frustrations with the state of the Brewery Court and is committed to seeing the area revamped and brought back to its former beauty.

Cllr Harris said: “When I became Council leader it was a priority of mine to give Brewery Court some attention, we’ve been working on plans to regenerate Brewery Court and I’m thrilled to announce that the District Council is investing around £30,000 to improve the site. We would have liked to do this sooner but the uncertainty around the pandemic has meant we have had to delay. 

“Plans to improve the area will include the introduction of new seating and planters, general surface repairs and the removal of existing walls and seating areas to create a more open and welcoming space. This will complement the great work the businesses such as Amore Mio and new Brewery Arts are doing to tidy up their corners of the court.

“We’re also committed to restoring the mosaic that was once the pride of the town. The current intention is to refurbish the mosaic to its original design and specification, working closely with local conservation experts where possible.”

Cotswold District Council has been working on plans to restore the Brewery Court which included a feasibility study to help understand the requirements to redevelop the area into a usable and inviting community space.

Investigatory work included discussions with local tenants; ensuring there is suitable access for emergency vehicles and deliveries; ensuring that there is adequate drainage and utilities; and the restoration of the hare mosaic.

Plans to restore the hare mosaic replica will require further investigation into design, application and cost in order for an informed decision to be made on its future.
