Election announced for The Beeches Ward following resignation of Councillor Nigel Robbins
Cotswold District Council has confirmed that an election to fill the vacancy in The Beeches Ward will take place on Thursday 12 March 2026, following the resignation of Councillor Nigel Robbins.
Cllr Robbins has served on Cotswold District Council since 2015 and has decided to retire as a councillor.
Jane Portman, chief executive officer at Cotswold District Council, said: “I would like to thank Cllr Robbins for his dedicated service and excellent representation of his residents, particularly for his recent leadership as Chair of the Audit and Governance Committee. We wish him well for the future.
“Taking part in local democracy is important, and I would encourage residents of The Beeches Ward to ensure they are registered to vote and to take part in the by-election, including checking their voting arrangements and ID where necessary.”

Key dates for the election process are:
- Notice of Election: Thursday 5 February
- Nomination papers: Submit by hand to Council Offices, Trinity Road, GL7 1PX between 10am and 4pm from Friday 6 February
- Deadline for nominations: 4pm, Friday 13 February
- Publication of candidates: No later than 4pm, Monday 16 February
- Register to vote: By Tuesday 24 February
- Postal vote applications: By 5pm, Wednesday 25 February
- Proxy vote and voter authority certificate applications: By 5pm, Wednesday 4 March
- Election day: Thursday 12 March 2026
The Notice of Election and nomination packs are available on the council’s website. Poll cards will be posted towards the end of next week.

To register to vote, residents should visit the Government website at gov.uk/register-to-vote or contact Cotswold District Council if unable to register online.
All residents voting in-person at a polling station will need to show ID. Information on the ID required is available on the council website at cotswold.gov.uk/voterID. Anyone who does not have one of the accepted forms of ID will be able to apply for free ID online at voter-authority-certificate.service.gov.uk/ or by completing a paper form which is available from the council.
To register for a postal or proxy vote residents should visit the Government website at gov.uk/apply-postal-vote or https://www.gov.uk/apply-proxy-vote or contact Cotswold District Council to request a paper form.
