Local heroes to be recognised for their contributions to the community
Cotswold District Council has launched a new award scheme to recognise the ‘Unsung Heroes’ in the Cotswold district.
The Unsung Heroes Awards will acknowledge all the work being done across the district by volunteers who give up their time to help others.
Residents and businesses can nominate people in their communities who they think have made a difference, from individuals who give up their time to help neighbours, to members of local groups who volunteer to deliver local projects.
The nominated individuals will be shortlisted by local councillors before winners are announced at Full Council and awards presented by the Chair of the Council.
The first round of winners will be announced at the next Full Council meeting on 25 September, and this will be a rolling award scheme with winners announced at every Full Council meeting going forward.
The awards were launched at the Full Council meeting last night (31 July).

Cllr Nikki Ind, Chair of the Council, said, “I’m so excited we have launched the Unsung Heroes Awards to recognise those people in our communities who make a huge difference without recognition.
“They truly are heroes in their selfless efforts to help their neighbours, friends and wider communities. They often do it for no pay and many people are not aware of what they achieve.
“I think we all know someone in our town or village that gives up their time in aid of others and we want to thank them for all they do.”
Cllr Claire Bloomer, Cabinet Member for Cost of Living and Inclusion, said, “I would encourage everyone to nominate their unsung hero, we’re really looking forward to going through all the nominations.
“Volunteering is something I would recommend to everyone. Whether that’s just one hour a week, or a whole day! Our local groups need the support from volunteers and any time you have to give will be appreciated...maybe you could be our next Unsung Hero?”
