Major improvements work to Rissington Road car park in Bourton-on-the-Water

The improvement works will enhance facilities and make the car park more accessible with works scheduled to start on 31 October 2022 and due for completion in Spring 2023.  

Cllr Mike Evemy, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Finance, said: “This scheme is an excellent investment in the future of Bourton-on-the-Water. The improvements to Rissington Road car park will provide a modern, accessible facility and improve the experience of visitors to the village who use this car park.

“The addition of electric vehicle charging points in this car park is part of our wider ambition to promote sustainable travel, helping us to tackle climate change.

“We know that the car park is important for the tourist trade, which is why we have scheduled the works to take place in the winter months when visitor numbers to the village are at their lowest.”

Rissington Road car park will be fully resurfaced and a new layout and drainage system will be introduced which will reduce ongoing maintenance works.

How we are updating the car park: 

• Additional improved disabled parking to create better accessibility
• Installation of 8 electric vehicle bays
• Introducing wider parking bays to suit modern vehicles
• Energy-efficient LED lighting to improve visibility and reduce energy usage
• New tarmac surface with improved drainage
• Improved landscaping and layout to make the area more attractive

For the safety of users, the car park will be closed for approximately four months while the works take place. 

Visitors will be able to find alternative parking within the village. We ask that road users please respect the village while the car park is closed and always ensure to park legally and safely.
