New art exhibition ‘Call of the Wild’ opens at Corinium Museum

Cotswold artist Anita Saunders brings an exhibition of current work to the Corinium Museum, Cirencester – all inspired by nature.

A selection of oil paintings, original prints, fabrics and stained glass, all created by Anita Saunders in her garden studio, are on display in the Museum Gallery from 1 July until 4 September.

Each artwork is deeply rooted in Anita’s love of the natural world and her beloved Cotswold region.

Anita, says:  “I feel so lucky to have been born here and to have the experience of growing up in such a beautiful rural area. Being able to walk from my front door and within minutes be surrounded by nature is incredibly important to me. Seeing the effects of the changing seasons on the plants and animals inspires me; the influence is plain to see in the pieces I create.”

Anita has also been influenced by a fellow local artist Sarah Goddard, when putting together this exhibition.

Anita, added: “Sarah is an inspiration. As a sight-impaired mixed-media artist, Sarah is passionate about encouraging and enabling people to access art and creative activities. At her solo show earlier this year, Sarah recorded audio descriptions of her artworks for people to listen to, so accessing her work was not purely a visual experience. This struck a chord with me as my grandfather lost his sight in adulthood and I know how much he’d have appreciated this.”

While Anita admits hers are tentative steps forward, she has followed Sarah’s lead and made recordings to accompany selected pieces on display. The audio descriptions can be accessed by scanning QR codes at the exhibition or from links on the exhibition page on her website www.anitasaunders.co.uk.

‘Call of the Wild’ runs from 1 July to 4 September at Corinium Museum, Park Street, Cirencester GL7 2BX.  https://coriniummuseum.org/event/call-of-the-wild-exhibition-by-anita-saunders/

About Corinium Museum

The Corinium Museum is located at the heart of Cirencester, the ‘Capital of the Cotswolds’. The principal collection consists of the highly significant finds from the Roman town of Corinium. However, the museum today is much more than that, taking you on a journey through time and charting the development of the Cotswolds from its prehistoric landscape to the modern-day.
