Statement from the Leader of Cotswold District Council, Cllr Mike Evemy
The following statement is from the Leader of Cotswold District Council, Cllr Mike Evemy in response to the Government decision to create a single unitary council for Gloucestershire.
"We welcome the Government's decision, which provides clarity on the future of local government in Gloucestershire and enables planning for the next phase to begin.
“At Cotswold District Council, councillors unanimously supported the single unitary option as we believed it was the strongest of the proposals available and best reflected the needs of our residents and communities.
“For now, residents can be reassured that council services will continue exactly as they do today. While there is still considerable work ahead and many details to be worked through, we will keep our communities informed and involved as plans develop.
“Councils across Gloucestershire have already been working closely together through this process, and that spirit of collaboration will continue. We now have an opportunity to help shape a new council that builds on the strengths of existing local authorities and delivers the best possible outcomes for residents, businesses and visitors."
