Time running out to comment on Cotswold District Council’s Local Plan

Residents, businesses, community groups and others are being urged to have their say on Cotswold District Council's proposed Local Plan before the consultation closes at on 3 November, marking the final opportunity to submit comments before the Plan is sent for independent examination.

The Regulation 19 consultation is the final stage in the Local Plan process before submission and focuses on whether the Plan is legally compliant, sound and capable of being delivered.

The Plan will help shape how the district grows in the years ahead, setting out where new homes, jobs and infrastructure should be provided, while protecting the environment and the unique character of the Cotswolds.

The proposed Plan sets out how the district can respond to the Government's requirement to plan for 18,650 homes by 2043, equivalent to more than 1,000 homes a year, while ensuring growth is supported by the infrastructure, services and facilities communities need.

Around 90% of development is proposed across 10 strategic sites, helping to secure investment in schools, healthcare, transport links, green spaces and other community infrastructure. The Plan also supports the delivery of around 5,600 affordable homes across the district.

Cllr Juliet Layton, Cabinet Member for Housing and Planning, said: "There is still time to have your say - but the deadline is fast approaching. The Local Plan will help shape the district for years to come and this is the final opportunity to comment before it is submitted for examination.

“The Government has doubled the number of homes the district is required to plan for. Having an up-to-date Local Plan is the best way to make sure growth is properly planned, with the right homes, jobs and infrastructure in the right places, while protecting the landscapes and communities that make the Cotswolds unique.

“If you care about the future of the district, I'd encourage you to take a look at the Plan and share your views before the consultation closes."

This consultation is the final opportunity for people to comment on whether the Local Plan is legally compliant, sound and capable of being delivered. All responses will be submitted to the Planning Inspector and considered as part of the independent examination.

The consultation closes at 11.59pm on 3 November. To view the consultation documents and submit comments, visit: Local Plan 2026-2043 - Cotswold District Council
