Young heroes to shine as new award announced
Cotswold District Council is on the look-out for young individuals making a difference as it launches a new category in its Unsung Heroes Awards.
Created to ensure the outstanding contributions of young people aged up to 25 across the district aren’t overlooked, the new Young Person award recognises those who go above and beyond to support their communities. This could be through volunteering with Scouts or Guides, coaching at local sports clubs, working with the police to monitor speeding, or joining community clean-up initiatives.
The Council’s Unsung Hero Awards is a way to recognise individuals making a real difference across the district, often behind the scenes or under the radar. Winners are announced at full council meetings held every other month and are presented with a certificate from the chair of the council plus a special unsung hero badge.
July’s full council meeting will have a special focus on the young person’s award.
Cllr Claire Bloomer, Cabinet Member for Communities, said that the Young Person award would honour those who were actively involved in their local area – not for personal gain, but because they genuinely cared. She added that it was about recognising dedication, passion and community spirit among young residents who were leading by example.
“It’s so important that we recognise the young people in our district who are quietly giving their time and energy to make a positive impact,” she said.
“Whether they’re helping out at local groups, supporting their neighbours, or protecting the environment, their efforts deserve to be celebrated. These young volunteers are not only inspiring, they’re helping shape the future of our communities – and this award is a way to say thank you.
“Nominations are now open – so if you know an incredible young person who deserves to be recognised, let us know!”
